02 Feb 10 Cannot Delete vpshell2.dll

When you are removing / uninstall the Symantec Antivirus manually, it looks like their instructions of manual remove is not complete. One of the last steps required you to remove a “SSC” directory in “C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared” but you might not be able to remove it because of the locked vpshell2.dll.

vpshell2

To solve this, you will just have to delete the following folder in your registry:

  1. Run the regedit
  2. Delete – HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{BDA77241-42F6-11D0-85E2-00AA001FE28C}
  3. Delete – HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\{6F952B50-BCEE-11D1-82D6-00A0C9749EEF}”

Restart your computer and try again to delete the SSC folder
